Summary of the campaign “Bet on family!” in Kowala Commune in 2012

All-Poland precautionary campaign “Bet on family!” consists in promotion of positive behaviour betting on amplification of the family bonds. Kowala Commune took a part in that campaign in 2012 for the first time. Activities were coordinated by Coordinator of Communal Prophylaxis and Prevention against Alcoholism Program. Received materials were propagated within the community, among others, in primary schools, health centre, library, Community Office and the Local Social Welfare  Centre. The official inauguration of a campaign was held in February.February: Inauguration of campaign “Bet on family!”

1. Hanging out of the posters “Family- the warmest place under the sun”- in the kindergarten, schools, community centre, library, the Local Social Welfare Centre.

2. ‘Grandmother`s and Grandfather`s Day’ in the kindergarten.

Celebration of Grandmother`s and Grandfather`s Day in a State Kindergarten in Kowala was a great opportunity for official inauguration of the campaign ‘Bet on family!’. On the occasion of that event representatives of the Local Social Welfare Centre prepared a presentation “Irreplaceable Grandparents”. The role of grandparents in their grandchildren’s life was emphasised during the presentation. Furthermore , it was emphasised that children’s development and what kind of people  they will become in the future depends on grandparents in large part. They are the ones, who can give grandchildren precious, good experiences, they teach them tolerance for differences, what can benefit in the future. Children’s performances and presentation were watched by around 150 people, who received additionally leaflets “Irreplaceable grandparents”, which were purchased as part of the campaign.

3. Meeting of the headmasters in the Community Office- calendar of events connected with realisation of the campaign were discussed then, materials “Guidebook for Teachers” and books “Guidebook about the campaign” were given out.

March-May

 Series of the precautionary parents’ meetings for parents of the pupils from junior high schools with Ms Barbara Strzelecka- addictions’ therapist. Emphasising of the parents’ role in raising children as efficient way of protecting children from addictions, i.a. to alcohol and drugs. Leaflets ‘Are you an example for your children?’, ‘If your child needs help’, ‘Five simple advice for responsible parents’ and the ones from the packet ‘The Sober Driver’ were given out during the meeting.

Organizing  the photographical contest ‘Family-my place’ for kindergartens’, primary school’s pupils. Participants of the contest were supposed to prepare accordingly artistic work or photography as part of the contest. Purpose of the competition was a promotion of the family, strong intergenerational bonds and deepening young people’s awareness about worth and role of the family in every human being’s life, about common spending of the time as the way of the counteracting of the recent world’s dangers.

6. Generations’ Gala in Mazowszany. On Sunday, 3rd June 2012 Generations’ Gala, organized every year as a token of giving name to the school and family’s feast, was held in Primary School in Mazowszany. This year, the Local Social Welfare  Centre in Kowala, realizing within the commune an all-Poland campaign “Bet on family!’,  was involved in organisation of the event. A lot of attractions for the event’s participants were ensured by the organisers. Meeting became an event to remember and integrated local community.

7. Results of the first stage of the competition ‘Family-my place’. Several dozens of the pupils of primary schools, kindergarten from commune took part in a competition. Works were judged by Judging Commission consisting of: representative of the Education, representative of the Local Social Welfare Centre in Kowala- head of commission, representative of the Community Office, art teacher and photographer.

Works were judged in regard of the compliance with subject of contest, that is given content connected with promotion of the family and strong intergenerational bonds, which prevent getting embroiled in antisocial behaviour, articulateness for average spectators and beauty of the work.

Results of artistic works:

  • 1st place- Nikola Tomczyk, pupil of the Primary School in Kowala, charge of Community Centre “Szansa”
  • 2nd place- Karolina Bukalska, pupil of the Primary School in Mazowszany
  • 3rd place- Magdalena Bielecka, pupil of the Primary School in Kowala

  • Patrycja Jasińska- pupil of the Primary School in Mazowszany

All photos sent by pupils from the community took part in 2nd stage of the contest- 21st November 2012.

Winners of the contest and awarded pupils received attractive prizes.

8. Precautionary workshops for junior high school school’s pupils. On 19th September 2012 precautionary workshops with first grade pupils were held in Junior High School in Parznice as part of the campaign “Bet on family!”. Event was chaired by Ms Izabela Kolanowska, who works in Pallotinum Caritas in Radom.

Topic of the workshops was prophylaxis of drunk addiction, consequences and causes of it.  Pupils were told about myths and stereotypes connected with drinking alcohol, characteristic attitudes of addicted people, addiction’s phases. Damages in human organism, caused by long-lasting consumption of the alcohol, were shown with the benefit of the physique’s diagram. Pupils had also a possibility of watching short film showing children with FAS- fatal alcohol syndrome, whose illness is caused by drinking alcohol by their mothers during the pregnancy. Leaflets purchased as part of the campaign: “Whom ask for advice?’, ‘We are building our home together’ were given out to the children during the workshops. Leaflets from the series ‘The young, the responsible’ promoting the campaign ‘Responsible driver’ were also given out.

October-November

9. Precautionary workshops for the primary schools’ pupils. Between 16th October and 27th November 2012 series of the precautionary workshops with 4th grade students from junior high  schools was carried as part of the campaign ‘Bet on family!’. Workshops were carried by Ms Agnieszka Siczek and Ms Kamila Pszczółka.

Subject of the workshops was broadly defined prophylaxis. Owing to practical nature of the workshops, pupils have not just a possibility to hear about meaning of the family bonding in today’s world, but they can also show their knowledge about that. Pupils received leaflets “Mum, dad, I and other people’ during the classes.

10. Parental meeting with 1st grade pupils’ parents. On 13th November 2012 a parental meeting with 1st grade pupils’ parents was held in Junior High School in Parznice as part of the campaign ‘Bet on family!’. Important issues connected with addiction’s prophylaxis were raised,  results of questionnaire, which was carried out among pupils, were discussed and the whistle was blown on expanding problem of reaching for alcohol.  Correctness of the parent-child relation was mainly emphasised during a meeting. Leaflets “If your child needs help”, “If your family needs support” and the ones from the packet “Sober Driver”.

11. Finale of the photographic contest “Family- my place”. On 21st November 2nd stage results of the contest “Family- my place” were decided. This time pupils made a collage of the photos showing family. Works of the pupils were judged by the same Judging Commission as in the first stage.

  • 2nd place- Aleksandra Poneta, pupil of the Pope John Paul II Junior High School in Parznice
  • 3rd place- Barbara Bednarczyk, pupil of the Primary School in Kończyce-Kolonia

Winners of the contest received attractive prizes. Other contestants received diplomae and book prizes.

December

12. End of the campaign. Certificates ‘Teacher friendly for the family’ and ‘Certificate for local cooriginators of the campaign’ were awarded.

Articles and information about carried campaign appeared on the Internet sites of Kowala Commune and the Local Social Welfare Centre during whole campaign. Artistic works and photos as well as board promoting the campaign were exhibited in the Community Office’s building during whole campaign.
