Taming disability
On 5th September 2013 in the building of the Local Social Welfare Centre in Kowala training is raising awareness about how people with disabilities. The training was conducted by the Foundation Institute for Regional Development, thanks to the European Union under the European Social Fund for the invitation of the Committee for People with Disabilities in the Kowala.
The training was attended by 15 people, including employees of the Local Social Welfare Centre and the County Office. During the training presented myths and stereotypes about disability and the types of disability and limitations associated with them. In addition, each participant could see for himself how they see people with disabilities of sight, trying on special glasses and listen to recordings of simulated hearing people who use a hearing aid.
Another very important topic discussed during the training was civility towards people with disabilities, who provided useful knowledge both in working with people as in everyday life. It addressed the issue of implementation activities for people with disabilities by local governments.
The workshop was conducted like disabled person, blind, who came to us accompanied by a guide dog. Ms. Justyna Kucińska training gave participants living example of wisdom and courage. Training partially showed personal experience leading and the process of learning and making friends with disabilities.
Participants received materials containing guidelines for working with people with disabilities.
