Patriotism at the trot for Independence
The start of the relay was on 11th November 2013 at 11.11 at Żwirko and Wigura Monument in Kowala. This year Independence Relay was for the third time promoting patriotism and voluntary in our commune.
The route was through Kowala, Rożki, Augustów and Kowala- Kolonia. The volunteers from the Local Voluntary Centre, sportsmen, firefighters, workers and clients of the local Social Welfare Centre and the County Office, seniors, disabled people, wards of the community centres Szansa in Kowala and Słoneczko in Trablice and inhabitants of Kowala commune took part in the relay. Policemen from the police station in Kowala and firefighters took care of the participants. The sun was shining during the whole competition. The best participants a prize like delicious grilled sausage funded by the village-mayor and a sweet treat like wafers funded by the Supporting Development of Kowala Commune Association was waiting for.
The relay was the element of all-Poland action 11.11.11.11.13, in which several dozen of institutions took part, and the initiator of the whole enterprise was the Voluntary Centre at ‘Arts Partnership’Association in Gołdapia. The celebration was held thanks to the help of the Local Social Welfare Centre in Kowala, The County Office in Kowala and Supporting Development of Kowala Commune Association. The National Independence Day is a Polish celebration held on 11th November every year, to memorise the anniversary of gaining independence in 1918 after 123 years from dismembering Poland made by Russia, Prussia and Austria. It was celebrated by the II RP, formally became a National Celebration in 1937, from 1939 it was not celebrated, reintroduced in 1989. It is a free day. The day 11th November was celebrated to memorise independence from 1920. In II RP there were always army parades, Masses for the homeland, national celebrations.
